The Rite of Her Sacred Fires Anthology

For more than ten years, the Rite of Her Sacred Fires has served as a guiding light for Hekate’s followers, fostering a shared journey of enlightenment, transformation, and unity.

Established in 2010 by Sorita d’Este, this ritual has crossed boundaries, languages, and traditions, evolving into a lasting spiritual practice embraced by thousands around the globe. Through this collaborative anthology, we aim to celebrate and preserve the diverse voices of those who have traversed this sacred journey.

Keeping the Fires Burning will be a tribute to the wide-ranging experiences, insights, and inspirations that have arisen from this global event. It will include personal stories, reflections, poetry, artwork, and historical insights, all focusing on how The Rite of Her Sacred Fires has influenced its participants.

Whether you've participated in the rite once or have embraced as an annual tradition, your voice contributes to its vibrant legacy.

This anthology is being developed in partnership with Avalonia Press and Sorita d’Este, who will oversee the publication of the collection.

Submissions Process

We welcome submissions that explore personal experiences, transformative insights, and the impact of the Rite of Her Sacred Fires on your spiritual practice.

Submissions may include:

Personal narratives about your experience with the rite
Reflections on the spiritual, magical, or emotional significance of participating
The ways the rite has influenced your relationship with Hecate
Creative expressions inspired by the rite (such as poetry, invocations, or artwork)
Historical perspectives or research on the origins and evolution of the rite

Submission Requirements:

Word Count: 1,000 – 3,000 words for personal narratives or essays. Poetry and invocations may be considered if it is relevant to the topic.
Format: Submit as a .docx or Google Doc file. Keep formatting to a minimum - Bold, underline and italics only.
Language: Submissions should be in English.
Author Bio: Include a short (50–100 words) biography with your submission. You may include your website or social media links.
Permissions: If you are submitting artwork or photography, ensure you own the rights and provide a high-resolution image (minimum 300 DPI).
Previously Published Works: We prefer original submissions, but if your piece has been published elsewhere, please include details and confirm that you retain the rights for re-publication.
If quoting the work of others keep it to short (200 words max) extracts, and provide in text credits for the original source. Additionally, include any texts you draw from in a bibliography at the end of your essay.

Deadline:
All submissions must be received by 25 November, 2025 to be considered for inclusion.

Selection Process:
Submissions will be reviewed based on their relevance, authenticity, and contribution to the overall theme of the anthology. Due to space limitations, not all submissions may be accepted. If your piece is selected, we may request minor edits for clarity and cohesion.

Compensation & Rights:
This is a community-driven project. Essay contributors will receive one printed copy of the final publication and the opportunity to share their work in a significant collection honoring the legacy of The Rite of Her Sacred Fires. All contributors will be able to purchase additional copies at a contributors’ discount. Authors retain rights to their work but grant non-exclusive permission for inclusion in the anthology.

Rev. Renee Sosanna Olson is a spiritual counselor, sound healer, a dedicated follower of Hecate's mysteries. As a Companion to the Covenant of Hecate; she served as Torchbearer and Keybearer dedicated to fostering community, spiritual growth, and devotion to the goddess. A Master Sound Healer and Certified Yogi Master, Renee integrates holistic wellness, ritual practice, and transformative healing into her work.

Beyond her spiritual practice, she is committed to community service, supporting the Blessing Box of Goldsboro, which provides food and essentials for those in need. In this anthology, she leads the project, ensuring the vision of The Rite of Her Sacred Fires is honored and the voices of contributors are woven together into a meaningful collection.

Sorita d'Este

Sorita d’Este is a renowned author, researcher, and publisher specializing in mythology, magic, and ancient spiritual traditions. With a deep passion for Hecatean studies and practical witchcraft, she has written and edited numerous books that explore the history and modern practice of magic. As the founder of Avalonia Press, Sorita has dedicated herself to preserving and sharing knowledge that empowers spiritual seekers.

In Keeping the Fires Burning, Sorita takes on the role of publisher, bringing her expertise and dedication to ensuring this collection of stories from the Covenant of Hekate’s Torchbearers is beautifully crafted and widely accessible. I’ve had an interest in all things spiritual for as long as I can remember. When I came across Witchcraft/Wicca, things just fell into place. I have been a practicing Wiccan witch for around 30 years. Hekate was always a mystery to me, she was always around I’m sure, but it took me sometime to answer her calling. My go to Goddess at the time was Isis, but I would always call upon Hekate to guide and lead family or friends that have passed, into the Summerlands. Various coincidences (or may be not so coincidental knowing Hekate), lead me to learning more about her and already knowing Sorita D’Este from my London Wiccan days, I connected to the Covenant and am now a devotee.

Sara Valtorta

Sara is an art historian and a scholar interested in Iconography, Iconology and History of Religion. As the keeper of the Sanctuary of Hekate Potnia Theron and Hekate’s Astral Temple and Sacred Grounds she is dedicated to guide people in connecting with Hekate through Nature and the Spirits of the land. As an Ovate, Sara is following a very eclectic path, intertwining magic, theurgy and a druidic approach to Hekate’s mysteries. Through the Sanctuary of Hekate Potnia Theron she is offering support and help to all Hekate’s devotees in practical and spiritual matters, offering prayers and rituals, counseling and teachings but also supporting the local food banks and organizations aiming to protect the natural environment and the cultural heritage. As Torchbearer within the Covenant of Hekate, Sara is committed to share knowledge about Hekate and she is managing the Italian speaking group, supporting its growth through online events and classes. The Rite of Her Sacred Fires marked a breaking point in her spiritual life so supporting Renee’s project is her way to share her vision of the rite and honor Hekate.

Sandra Maria Streit

Sandra Maria Streit is a Torchbearer in the Covenant of Hekate and the founder of the Sanctuary of Hekate Kourotrophos. She has been a mystic, witch and polytheist for about 30 years and has been exploring different pagan paths and looked at different ways of spirituality including Witchcraft, Druidry, Heathenry, Buddhism and Chaos Magick. All this lead to an eclectic but very grounded, practical and nature based practice. Her constant companion through all these years has been the Tarot. It's an essential part of her spiritual practice and magickal work.
As a person living with a life-long disability, another focus of her work is to show that one can have a fulfilling spiritual and magickal practice while being disabled or chronically ill, too.
When Hekate crossed her path, everything fell into place and Hekate became the center of her spiritual path. Her aim is to create a safe(r) space for the community and to guide seekers on their path with
Hekate.
The Rite of Her Sacred Fires holds a special place in her heart because it is not only a beautiful and
powerful ritual, at the same time it's accessible and brings together Devotees from all over the world that
share the love of Hekate. This is what makes it so special.
